Mingus Mill was a cool little place we discovered while traveling through the back roads of Tennessee.
Mingus Mill is located a half-mile north of the Oconaluftee Visitor Center. The mill was built in 1886 and uses a water-powered turbine instead of a water wheel to power all of the machinery in the building.
The hours are 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM daily mid-March through mid-November. Also, open Thanksgiving weekend, but I would verify before making the trip.
We took a short hike up stream to see where the water was coming from. We crossed a little bridge over the stream and it was a very easy break, not far at all before the trail just disappears.
When we walked back down we went inside the mill and got to see how it was pretty much how it was back in 1886.
It was pretty neat to see the cool technology from the 1800’s.
Mingus Mill is cool place to check out if your in the neighborhood.
