Riding bikes next to Lake Hartwell at Paynes Creek
It’s been a while since Torie and I have been able to get out on our bikes and go for a real ride. We were fortunate enough to find a trail at Paynes Creek near Lake Hartwell in Georgia.
Paynes Creek is a single track trail that is used for bikers and walkers. If you want to bring your 4 legged friends make sure they are leashed so you don’t have any issues.
The cool thing about this trail is there really isn’t a whole lot of people on it. We rode the trail on Sunday and woke up first thing this morning to ride again and each time only saw one other person.
The entire trail is about 7.5 miles long and the elevation change is 427 ft. If you’re a pretty good rider you’ll be able to ride the main trail in less than an hour.
If you want to take your time there is a ton of secluded private beaches you ride by. You can easily take a break and walk down to the water and take a dip if you want.
The entire trail is wooded and beautiful. You follow the water line for a good 3/4 of the trail and you feel like your in the middle of know where.
Access to the trails is within the Paynes Creek Campground area. You’ll want to drive towards the boat launch and park in the parking lot. The trail entrance is on the north west side of the parking lot.
There’s no fee to this trail. Like all the other trails in this area, the trail is closed after a rain so the trail doesn’t get ruined. The trail also closes after dark.
Overall super fun trail, not too many hills and tons of opportunities to test your skills. The trail does have a lot of exposed roots and some loose rocks but nothing my 7 year old couldn’t handle.
The trail is directly depending on which day you go. Sunday was much easier than Tuesday in my opinion but you be the judge.
