Giant Redwoods or Giant Sequoias
We’ve seen both and both are fantastic to see in person. Pictures just don’t do these trees the justice they deserve.
We visited the Calaveras Big Tree State Park in California.
We were visiting family in Sacramento and decided to take a little trip over to see the Giant Sequoias for the first time.
The park was clean and had a nice gift shop of course.
The nice thing about the park was that it wasn’t too crowded and it was much cooler than what it was in Sacramento.
The trail was nicely groomed and was a full circle so we got to wonder the the majestic giants and ended back where we started.
There were a few places you could sit on a bench and stare up at the tops of the tree and just wonder how they ever got to be so big.
Interesting fact: The Giant Sequoias grow taller than the Giant Redwoods, but the Redwoods grow larger around.
There is one tree where the trail goes right through the center of the tree. Back in the day a car would have been able to drive through the tree, but these days I wouldn’t see normal size cars fitting.
Nevertheless, it was pretty cool to get to walk through a tree.
Highly recommend visiting the Calaveras Big Trees State Park for cheap good old fashioned family fun in the outdoors.
